Climathon @ ComoNExT (Lomazzo) – October 27-28, 2016

Thursday 27 (from 2.00pm to 9.00pm) and Friday, 28 October (from 9.30am to 5.00pm) in Lomazzo, at the Science and Technology Park ComoNExT, will be held the Climathon, an annual event organized by Climate-KIK - the Europe's largest public-private innovation partnership focused on climate change, consisting of dynamic companies, the best academic institutions and the public sector - a global 24-hour climate change event which will take place simultaneously in major cities, and was promoted locally by ComoNExT, IREA CNR, city of Milan and Politecnico di Milano.

During the Climathon will be proposed a challenge based on actual problems and needs related to the incidence of climate change on urban life, and in the 24h students, companies and researchers will work together in groups to propose solutions based on the analysis of big data /open data.

The Climathon that will be held in Lomazzo has as theme of the challenge: The integrate management of the water system in Lombardy.

As you know Water is a common good, essential and not transportable, for these reasons an integrated management policy is needed, in order to allow the optimal use of this good by citizens and productive companies; the policy should take into account the differences between areas where water is scarce or abundant. What kind of water management systems and policies could be implemented? How it could be possible to monitor the surface water quality? How can citizens contribute in the management of the most important resource? Is it possible to monitor water usage? How to find out the leakages in the water supply network? How to make citizens aware about damaging discharge for the sewage and waste water systems (e.g. frying oils, varnishes, rags, cotton buds,...)? The challenge could be answered with models, idea, physical and digital products.

The participants will be supported in the scientific field by experts in resources management and geographic information system ones, and they could evaluate the feasibility of the ideas with the help of the ComoNExT incubator's team.
